Why is it necessary to have free movement of labour as part of the single market?
Agreed that having no tariffs or barriers to trade is good, as is having common standards, so goods made anywhere in the EU can be traded freely anywhere else.
But why extend this to free movement of labour? All it does is make people from poorer countries in the South and East of Europe want to move to richer more successful economies. Exactly similar to the lopsided problem we have in the UK with London/South East attracting more and more people.
Surely the right answer is to target capital investment where there is low cost under used labour, to bring up their living standards in their own areas.

Here's the evidence of foreign companies fleecing us for energy.

http://www.bbc.com/news/business-25200808

"ondon is the second cheapest city, where households pay well below the European average, despite recent price rises. In the past month, seven countries have seen gas price rises, while eight have seen prices fall."

What makes me laugh about people moaning about foreign companies is a lot of the utilities are owned by foreign governments.

I thought the state knew best?

Thought we had on average one of the lowest gas electricity bills in Europe

Rail system is different , the rail system in the UK are of the highest standard in the world for safety that costs , it is also the most complex system in the world .

We need more improvements in the rail system but we have to pay for it

Why do you think you are being fleeced by foreign energy companies and privatised rail companies? Have you got any, you know, evidence?

Yes because the privatisation of British industries has been such an overwhelming success hasn't it?.
I love being fleeced by foreign owned companies over my energy bills and mugged off by privatised rail firms.
Fucking hell.

Wouldn't the reform of the NHS make a major change. Sadly we can't afford to fund the demand and need to make changes

No service unless a minimum stamp/NI has been paid
Alcohol and drugs related treatment must be paid for

Quite Gavros

Which is precisely why we need flexible labour markets with freely flowing human capital for growth, employment and wealth creation.

The other necessary element for growth is of course the investment of non-human capital, which is not taking place enough at the moment.

It is unfortunate that the lack of the latter is confused with the former, and criminal that this is actively encouraged by certain sections of the political and media elite.

"Im not an economist. I don't know.. something about the idea that economies can keep growing and growing for ever and ever amen and all we need is more people seems like a short term one in my opinion"

No-one's suggesting that. Economies grow as a result of human capital and non-human capital, not just in terms of the stock of capital but also its productivity.
